BUILDING A FUTURE FOR ESKDALE

Building a Future for Eskdale is our response to stagnated employment and business opportunities locally.

Since 2015, the team have been working hard to ensure that opportunities for employment, enterprise and training are seized locally and has had great success in encouraging people of all ages.

We have supported almost 20 people back into work, helped to create 10 new small businesses and helped to deliver more than 100 industry recognised qualifications.

The project was also a finalist at the 2017 Dumfries & Galloway Life Awards and the 2018 Dumfries and Galloway Chamber of Commerce Awards.

In 2018, we commissioned this short film about the project successes.

We have been recognised as a best practice model for this kind of work.

By working with partners across the region, the project has been able to pull in expertise and abilities from The Business Gateway, Princes Trust, Developing the Young Workforce and DG TAP.

LANGHOLM STAYIN' ALIVE

In 2013, the Langholm Initiative commissioned a report into the outward migration of young people. Tom Millar led this study that informed the 'Building a Future for Eskdale' project, which you can read about here.

BERWICKSHIRE EMPLOYABILITY REPORT

We were featured as a model of best practice in the Supporting Positive Pathways report. The report highlights that in terms of value for money, our model is a great way for third sector organisations to move forward with employability.
