TOWNFOOT SPORT CENTRE REDEVELOPMENT PROJECT

We are leading the Townfoot Sport Centre Redevelopment Project.

The former Edinburgh Woolen Mill Sports Centre was closed in February 2019, a valuable asset in our community. Many locals lamented its closure and following an initial public meeting, it was decided that if possible, the venue should be redeveloped as a community-led centre.

Langholm Initiative is leading the development phase of the project and working in collaboration with the site's owner, Ashleybank Investments Limited.

The feasibility stage of the project will consider the views of residents following a wide-ranging public consultation.

We want to develop and operate a first class modern community-led sports centre, which will be embraced by local people, and will benefit general wellbeing and welfare in wider Langholm and Eskdale.

We will do this by ensuring that from the commencement, the project harnesses the enthusiasm, support and influence of the community and that the necessary level of funding can be realised.

The clear objective will be to ensure that local people are better connected (via the sports centre facilities), and that they are able to improve the wellbeing and welfare of themselves and their families, including increasing the potential for employment opportunities.
